Four days at the Center for BrainHealth: takeaways from BrainHealth Week.

Notes from BrainHealth Week at UT Dallas: future professionals with innovative ideas about resilience and social connection, the science of super agers, and a panel on workplace brain health with Tate Ringer and Vandana Nayak.

By Krystal Sexton

Two weeks ago, I spent four days at the Center for BrainHealth, attending BrainHealth Week. It was inspiring to hear the students presenting their ideas to promote brain health on campuses at NextGen Day. One day was devoted to brain healthy organizations and how we design work for the future, and a full day was dedicated to the science of brain health and longevity.

What are my key takeaways?

Future professionals have innovative ideas about resilience, social connection, and how to improve their brain health and that of friends and neighbors.

Toxic habits. We all have toxic habits that negatively impact our brain health. The Center for BrainHealth offers a brief self-assessment so you can see your own pattern.

Super agers are adults over 80 who have the cognitive capability of someone 50 to 60 years old. In a national study, these rock stars share many traits, including strong social connections.

It was an honor to share the stage with Tate Ringer and Vandana Nayak to discuss workplace brain health. Thank you to the entire team at the Center for BrainHealth for the invitation, and I hope to be invited back next year.
